Savaslas Lofton was born and raised in the small town of Wilson, North Carolina. He is the son of Pastor Thurman and Elderess Betty Lofton and the youngest of eight children. He is married to Tracey Lofton of Suffolk, VA and has two beautiful children, David Hezekiah Lofton and Josiah Jeremiah Lofton.
The greatest influence on his life has been the Word of God. Savaslas was introduced to the ministry as he traveled and gained invaluable knowledge about the gospel music industry while touring with his father’s singing ensemble. Many years later, while in the Air Force, he served as a drummer for gospel artists such as Douglas Miller and Shawn Pace Rhodes during the Church of God in Christ Fellowship Retreat (1997-98) in the Republic of South Korea.
In 1993, the Holy Spirit inspired Savaslas to begin song writing and playing the piano. Not understanding the gift he possessed, he began singing, playing, and writing songs for secular artists. The immutable calling on his life, however, was to minister through music and song for the Lord. In 1994, while lodging at a hotel in South Bronx N.Y., Savaslas came face to face with the reality of God’s purpose for his life. He and the R&B group he traveled with were robbed by gunpoint. By the grace of God, they escaped and no one was hurt or injured. This wake-up call launched Savaslas into his destiny. When he arrived back home to North Carolina, he rededicated his life back to the Lord. It was then prophesied that he was anointed to preach the Gospel and would travel the world. Seven years later, the prophecy was fulfilled when he became a licensed minister in 2001.
Savaslas is a sought after writer, singer, songwriter and musician whose gift truly made room for him and brought him before great men (Proverbs 18:16). He had the pleasure of accompanying Elder Rance Allen on keyboard and vocals. He also orchestrated the music for several conferences: Women of War 2001 at Oasis Christian Center Alamogordo, N.M. and Season of Praise 2003 at Christian Joy Center, El Paso, T.X. Most recently, he accompanied the gospel comedian/artist, Broderick Rice, in May of 2004 at Christian Joy Center, El Paso, T.X., Kim Rutheford, and Joann Rosario, both of whom were members of Radical for Christ.
Savaslas is currently on the ministerial staff and serves as the Minister of Music for Christian Joy Center, El Paso T.X. and Alamogordo, N.M. in addition, Audio Visual Multimedia Director/Editor. He desires to minister to the deep-seated needs of God’s people through singing, musical composition, and songwriting. Truly, this man of God has a heart not only for the lost, but for the hurting as well. He is the founder and C.E.O. of Balm in Gilead Ministries (founded in 2000), which is an outreach ministry designed to bring deliverance and healing to the land (Jeremiah 8:22).
